Clinical Solutions base set of clinical algorithms provides structured, clinical decision support for clinicians assessing patients over the telephone, ensuring consistent, safe, high quality, evidence based assessment every time. Each algorithm is either symptom or problem based and consists of an overview of clinical areas covered, a structured set of questions arranged in algorithmic format, rationales for the use of each question and evidence based care advice. Each is fully referenced.
The clinical algorithm content has been adapted for use by non clinical staff (for example call takers) to enable them to quickly identify emergency situations and to assign a priority to other encounters. Use of an electronic decision support tool will improve call handler safety, consistency and efficiency and optimise use of clinical resources. The data collected allows for ease of audit of this initial, but very important aspect of call taking.
Our TeleGuide and Initial Prioritisation sets are adapted to include tropical diseases and conditions The TeleGuide set can be customised to ensure the content reflects the needs of the local population which they serve and the healthcare resources available within that health economy. For our tropical set, a panel of experts from a tropical climate has been engaged to ensure that communicable and tropical disease prevalence is taken into account and to ensure that conditions existing in tropical climates are considered when symptoms are assessed. The care advice offered is also adapted to reflect acceptable practice in these populations.
TeleGuides have been successfully translated in to a number of languages including Portuguese, English, US English, Norwegian and Spanish. We work with our customers in other countries to ensure that not only the language, but clinical content reflects the needs and appropriate practice for the health economy in which it is to be used.
